Tempe Police: Man steals from car to please girlfriend

Tempe Police reported the following incidents Wednesday:

A 28-year-old Tempe man was arrested Feb. 5 at the 2100 block of East Apache Boulevard on suspicion of third degree burglary, according to the police report.

Police first contacted the man on Feb. 1 during an investigation of a burglarized vehicle, police reported.

Officers had noticed the man matched the description of a suspect who had burglarized a vehicle down the block, according to the report.

During the investigation, the man was found in possession of the stolen items from the burglarized vehicle and an independent witness positively identified the man as the suspect, police reported.

Officers released the man at the scene that same day and kept the items for safekeeping, according to the report.

On Feb. 5, the man was located after another person who reported their car had been broken into described the items found in the man’s possession, which included various clothing items and a pair of Beats by Dr. Dre headphones, police reported.

The man explained he had stolen the items to please his girlfriend, police reported.

Officers transported the man to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and held to see a judge, according to the report.

A 20-year-old Phoenix man was arrested Feb. 7 at the 200 block of West Fifth Street on suspicion of marijuana possession, according to the police report.

Officers approached the man and another passenger parked in a vehicle when they observed the smell of marijuana, police reported.

The man was found rolling a cigar while his passenger was drinking from a vodka bottle, according to the report.

Police detained the man and inspected the cigar, which contained marijuana, officers reported.

The man was then transported and booked into Tempe City Jail and released pending charges, according to the police report.
