Tempe Police: Woman tries to recoup money from employer, threatens with screwdriver

Tempe Police reported the following incidents Tuesday:

A 19-year old Phoenix man and woman were arrested March 14 on the 2100 block of South Mill Avenue on suspicion of burglary, according to a police report.

The woman had been terminated from her job on Mill Avenue five days before, and she said the owner of the business owed her money, police reported.

Police said the man and woman knocked loudly at the business door, screaming for five to 10 minutes before the woman tried to kick the door in, according to the report. The man then kicked through the door, which was locked with a deadbolt, breaking it, police reported.

The two forced their way into the business as they yelled the name of the woman’s former supervisor, according to the report.

The woman found both workers locked in an office, police reported. The woman yelled at workers from outside the office, telling one worker she would “beat her ass,” according to the police report. She also told the woman that she would stab her in the neck, police reported.

According to the police report, the woman grabbed a screwdriver and slammed it into the glass window of the office, breaking the glass, still yelling at one of the workers, saying he owed her money and threatening the other with the screwdriver.

The man left the building before the woman began threatening them with the screwdriver, police reported.

The workers told police the woman left after they told her they were calling the authorities, police said.

The woman told officers she was there to collect money the boss owed her, according to the reports. She said when she realized the boss was inside the building and ignoring her, she became angry and tried to kick down the door, according to the report.

The man told police he kicked the door open, but left the business after she began yelling so he would not get in trouble, police reported.

According to the report, the man told officers he “knew what he did was wrong but was just trying to help (the woman).”

Both were booked into Tempe City Jail and held to see a judge, police reported.
