Boos & Bravos: April 2

Bravo to the announcement of a date for the fourth season of "House of Cards" but boo to SB 1318, the dehumanizing bill that was signed into law Monday.

Bravo to the confirmation of a fourth season of "House of Cards." The next season of the Netflix hit series will air in 2016 — fourth wall beware.

Boo to the attack of a north-eastern Kenyan university. The attack at Garissa University by al-Shabab militants resulted in the loss of 147 lives. Our hearts go out to the families and friends of those affected.

Bravo to the development of a framework for an Iranian Nuclear deal. The decision has been months in the making and is the first step in making sure that Iran has a peaceful nuclear program. It is important that Iran is able to exercise its right as a nation with a nuclear program while ensuring that other countries are safe.

Boo to Indiana and Arkansas, which can't seem to grasp what exactly religious freedom encompasses. Amendments included, the Religious Freedom and Restoration Act is inherently bigoted and shouldn't be a thing that's happening in our great nation.

Bravo to Grammy award-winning band System of a Down, who will be holding its first concert in Armenia. The concert, which will be the band's first in the country, will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. The members of the band are all of Armenian decent.

Boo to the people who participated in Autism Speaks's annual "Light It Up Blue" campaign. Although the organization masquerades as a means to meet the needs of and promote accommodation for autistic people, its goals include attempting the "prevention" of autism. Rather than promoting that autistic people are capable and functional, Autism Speaks focuses on eliminating autism, and therefore eliminating identities.

Bravo to McDonalds for implementing a pay increase for employees. Approximately 1,500 employees at McDonalds-owned restaurants will be paid at least $1 more than state minimum wage. Wal-Mart also announced that employees should be expecting a pay increase.

Boo to Arizona Public Service Co. for asking solar customers to pay a higher fee for their service. Customers can expect an average increase from $5 a month to $21 a month. Choosing an energy method that protects the environment should not come at a higher cost.

Bravo to the Arizona Legislature for trying to wrap up the utter nonsense that has been going down at the Capitol by enacting Sine Die on Thursday. This is the earliest that Sine Die has been activated, and it brings relief to politicians and citizens alike.

Boo to Arizona's Senate Bill 1318. The bill, which made national news for outrageous claims that abortion could be reversed, was signed into law by Gov. Ducey. Not only is the bill embarrassing to our state, it is harmful to the health and well-being of women.
