Tempe Police: Man assaults two men with box cutter

​A 19-year-old Tempe man was arrested after assaulting two others with a box cutter while under the influence, police said.

Tempe Police reported the following incidents Thursday: 

A 19-year-old Tempe man was arrested April 6 at the 1900 block of East Apache Boulevard on suspicion of aggravated assault, delaying and obstructing a police officer, disorderly conduct and minor in consumption, according to the police report. 

Officers were called to the scene after the man began verbally assaulting two other men while wielding a box cutter, police said. 

The man started making statements such as “I have a box cutter, bitch!” and “I’m going to f---ing kill you!” according to the report. The man started approaching the other two men while wielding the box cutter, police reported. 

One of the men overtook the man and pushed him to the ground, according to the report. Officers began questioning the man, who stated he was not injured and did not possess any weapons, police said. 

Police began walking the man to the curb when he turned around and sprinted away from the officer, according to the report. Officers were able to take the man into custody, when they noticed a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and watery, bloodshot eyes, police said. 

The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and held to see a judge, according to the police report. 


A 23-year-old Phoenix man was arrested April 5 at West 3rd Street and South Mill Avenue on suspicion of aggravated assault of a police officer, resisting arrest, criminal trespassing, assault and disorderly conduct, according to a police report. 

Officers were called to the scene after the man, along with two alleged accomplices, began physically assaulting a fourth man, police said. The men pushed the other man onto the light rail tracks and began punching him, according to the report. 

Once police arrived on the scene, they told the man to leave, police reported.  The man then shoved one of the officers, according to the report. The officer restrained the man and put him in handcuffs, police said. 

The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and held to see a judge, according to the police report.
