Tempe Police: Man publicly urinates at Dutch Bros, resists arrest

Tempe Police reported the following incident Monday:

A 47-year-old man was arrested June 7 at the Circle K located on the 1000 block of South Rural Road for aggravated assault on a police officer, disorderly conduct, trespassing, possession of drug paraphernalia, delay and obstruct, failing to provide his truthful name and urinating in public, according to a police report.

Police were alerted that the man was publicly urinating in a white plastic cup and harassing customers of Dutch Bros, located at 1000 block of South Rural Road in Tempe, by cursing and challenging them to a fight, police said.

Upon arrival, the police officer was informed by Dutch Bros employees that the man had walked southbound toward Circle K, the report said.

When she arrived at Circle K, and officer located the man behind a public telephone and asked his name, according to the report.

The man refused to identify himself or provide a state issued ID and began backing away from the officer, police said.

The officer grabbed his left wrist, but the man clenched his arms to his chest and began resisting, according to the report.

The officer grabbed the man’s head and hair and forced him to the ground, but the man rose to his knees and continued to resist while clutching a bag to his chest, police reported.

The man proceeded to aggressively grab the officer's wrist in a perceived attempt to pull her to the ground, leaving three scratch marks behind, the report said.

Additional officers soon arrived and the man was detained, police reported

According to the report, a search conducted after the arrest revealed that the man was in possession of a bag containing methamphetamine and he was transported to Tempe City Jail where he was booked and held to see a judge, according to the report.
