ASU men's golf opened its season with a third-place finish in the Olympia Fields Invitational hitting 15 above par behind Oklahoma State (+9) and tournament winner Florida State (+6).

The invite featured 15 colleges across the country including Alabama, Stanford, and Illinois.

The Sun Devils had their five best players out today hitting, including seniors Jon Rahm, Max Rottluff, Alberto Sanchez, junior Jarde du Toit and sophomore Tobias Eden.

ASU started day one in fifth place playing against Indiana and Texas Tech in the last matchup of the night, two teams that finished at the bottom of the tournament (Texas Tech finished 15th while Indiana finished tied for 12th with Baylor).

Rahm and Sanchez were two of 13 players who hit below par in the first day as Rahm hit one below and Sanchez hit two below. Though Rahm and Sanchez were on point, the team struggled a bit, both Eden and Rottluff hit +5 and du Toit went +3.

ASU held a strong position in fifth place with the other four teams ahead by just a few shots n but the team struggled, hitting eight above par and putting their grand total of the first two days to +13.

The Sun Devils faced off against host Illinois and Baylor on Saturday.

Rahm hit +4, Rottluff had his best day of the tournament, hitting two above par, both du Toit and Eden hit 3 above par. The team needed a strong day three to at least give themselves a fighting shot to win and needed the top teams (Stanford, Florida State, Oklahoma State, Illinois) to slip up.

Stanford had a tough finishing day, hitting +11 and slipping all the way to fourth place.

ASU responded with its best day in Chicago, hitting two above par and going on to third place, leapfrogging Stanford and Illinois with a count of 15 above par for the tournament.

The Sun Devil men will compete in the South Dakota State Invitational at Valentine, Nebraska, on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 7 a.m.
