Athletic director Ray Anderson announces Bob Bowman as the official swim coach for ASU at a press conference on April 24, 2015.  Bowman has trained Michael Phelp's for most of his career and Phelp's will continue his training for the Olympics in Arizona.

ASU swimming head coach Bob Bowman spoke to the media in the press box at Sun Devil Stadium prior to ASU football’s game against New Mexico Friday night.

Bowman was recently announced as the Team USA swimming head coach and will lead the program at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Bowman was introduced as the head coach of the Sun Devil swim team in April. The newly-named coach's Olympic obligations are not expected to interfere with his responsibilities ASU's head coach, as the swimmers will compete for spots on the team.

“I think they’re going to mesh well,” Bowman said. “I’m already preparing a relatively large crew for Olympic competition.”

Bowman announced that Michael Phelps will hold a swim school in Arizona similar to instructional camps he has held in the past.

Bowman said he was interested to see how much Phelps and his fiancée have committed to being in the area to train and to live.

“He likes the sun, he likes golf.” Bowman said. “I think they might look at this long-term.”
