ASU men's basketball coach Bobby Hurley will get an added boost in his first-ever game at Wells Fargo Arena on Friday.

Hurley said Monday he expects junior forward Savon Goodman to play in the team's season opener against Sacramento State.

Goodman missed last Saturday's scrimmage against Western New Mexico and has missed a majority of the preseason with a right foot injury.

"Savon looked very good yesterday," Hurley said. "We didn't go extremely long coming off of the exhibition game, but he got good reps yesterday, was moving very well and pain-free. So he'll get three good days of practice going into the game. Hopefully, if there are no setbacks that we don't anticipate, he should be ready to roll."

Goodman was ASU's second-leading scorer in 2014-15 in averaging 11.2 points per game along with leading the team in rebounds with 7.6.

Hurley said despite Goodman getting hurt, he's happy about where his team stands health-wise.

"We've managed to stay relatively healthy coming in," Hurley said. "I think we're playing at a pretty good level right now and had another good practice yesterday. Just excited about where the season could take us. Just very optimistic as most coaches are before the games are starting to be played."

ASU opens the 2015-16 season against Sacramento State on Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Wells Fargo Arena.
