Coffee is typically associated as a coping mechanism for college students during the school year, but it's also a way to finally get out of your dark hole and socialize with others throughout the summer.

If you live in downtown Phoenix, you know cafes and shops are constantly popping up out of nowhere. However, don't worry, we've got you covered with five to check out this summer.

Jobot

Jobot coffee shop has become a personal favorite of mine since the beginning of my freshman year. Its atmosphere is always so welcoming and full of interesting personalities. From the amazing mocha to its yummy selection of italian sodas, Jobot has it all. If you find yourself starving late at night and everything is closed, this shop will welcome you with open arms. Just be aware: Clouds of cigarette smoke may also wave you into its gates, but inside is clean and comforting.

Fair Trade Cafe

If you ever find yourself jumping off the Maroon shuttle to downtown Phoenix, fear not a long walk in search of coffee. All you need to do is cross Central Avenue and walk down to the ground floor of the AE England Building located in Civic Space Park, there you will find Fair Trade Cafe. Inside is a cozy atmosphere with couches and comfortable chairs. Every drink is made with ristretto shots and may be accompanied with a treat.

Oliver's Sophisticated Bean

One of the newest coffee shops in downtown Phoenix, Oliver's Sophisticated Bean is located at the bottom of Roosevelt Point. It's space is open and allows for large groups to socialize. Not only is the coffee delicious, but the large windows allow perfect lighting for photos to share with your Instagram followers. Stop by during First Fridays when it is lit and welcoming to all its visitors.

Be Coffee + Food + Stuff

If you've ever wanted to sip on a drink while looking through an art gallery, Be Coffee, located next to the MonOrchid, is the place to go. Not only is it a place to hang out with friends, but it is also a great space for a date. And what's best is that the space never feels cramped, even when it's buzzing with people enjoying the art and the amazing scent of the day's treats.

Songbird Coffee & Tea House

From tea to coffee, this house coffee and tea shop offers the best drinks in downtown Phoenix. The staff is always friendly and helpful when, often helping new customers choose something delicious to drink. Seating is limited, but the spots available offer the best light — especially during golden hour.
