ASU finishes regular season strong in final indoor meet

ASU boasted personal bests, strong team performance at NAU on Friday

ASU track and field competed in its final regular season track and field meet on Friday at the NAU Tune-Up in Flagstaff, where a handful of personal bests were made.

After eight meets, the Sun Devils have been competing to get themselves into the MPSF Indoor Championships, which takes place next week.

It was a good night for ASU fans, as the Sun Devils had many top-five finishes all across the board.

Redshirt senior pole vaulter Nathan Hiett had a massive personal record vault in the men's pole vault. His vault of 17-4.50 feet set him almost one foot over his previous season record of 16-7.50.

Field Events

Redshirt freshman Samantha Noennig had a smashing first place finish in the women’s shot put.

Her throw of 16.71m is a new personal record for her and can potentially qualify her for the MPSF Indoor Championships.

Junior jumper Jessica Barreira also had a first place finish in the women's triple jump with a leap of 12.11m. Out of her six jumps, she was only marked for one, and that one landed her in first.

In the women’s pole vault, senior Kristiana Warth finished in third place after clearing 13-0.75 feet. Senior Haleigh Fritts finished in fourth at 12-6.75 feet.

Senior jumper Darreyl Woodson hopped her way into third place of the women’s long jump at 5.54m. On the men’s side, freshman Gregory Fernandez had a sixth place finish in the long jump with a jump of 6.46m.

In the men’s high jump, sophomore Elijah Hughes met a new personal record with a jump of 2.10m to earn him third place. Senior Mason Ford followed right behind Hughes and placed fourth at 2.05m.

After many delays, the men's pole vault team was one of the last to compete for the night. At around midnight, the Sun Devils dominated the competition.

The ASU men's pole vault team had four top-six finishers in the competition. Hiett came in first at 17-4.50ft and freshman Cole Riddle in third place at 16-6.75ft. Freshman Michael Chadwick finished in fourth place right behind Riddle with a jump of 16-6.75ft. Redshirt senior Grant Sisserson also made his way into the top with a sixth place vault of 16-0.75ft.
