The ASU triathlon team began their season with the annual 9/11 Heroes Run 5K in Tempe on Saturday.

Just over five minutes later, freshman Olivia Jenks rounded out ASU’s finishes with a time of 23.47 placing her 12th among women and 34th overall.

The group was down one member as redshirt senior Katie Gorczyca was representing the United States at the 2018 FISU World University Triathlon Championships in Kalmar, Sweden on the same day.

Gorczyca completed the Elite Women’s race in 26th overall and posted times of: 9:59 swim, 31:04 bike, and 17:55 run.

The team will be back in action on Sunday, Sept. 16 in Watauga, Tenn. for the Central Regional Qualifier while two members, sophomore Hannah Henry and Ernst, will represent Canada and the United States respectively in the ITU World Triathlon Grand Final in Australia.
