Oakland sports are finally on the rise.
If you told the Sun Devil volleyball team (13-3, 2-2 Pac-12) at the beginning of the season it would split its home series against Oregon State and last year’s NCAA tournament runner-up Oregon, it might have been pleased. But times have changed.
Thirty-four was the goal for the weekend.

Passing, passing, passing.
The No. 16 ASU volleyball team (12-2, 1-1 Pac-12) dropped its first conference match Friday night, falling in straight sets to the No. 7 Stanford Cardinal (9-2, 2-0 Pac-12) 25-17, 25-19, 25-22, in Stanford, Calif.
The Pac-12 is stacked with great volleyball programs but, historically, one team stands above the rest.

In 1973, the ASU and UA women’s volleyball programs played each other for the first time. The Sun Devils swept the Wildcats that year, winning all five matchups and dropping just one set.
It’s beginning to sound like a formula: play three games, win nine straight sets and move on.
You can’t win them all, but the No. 18 Arizona State volleyball team would like to try.
Playing in front of a home crowd for the first time, the No. 18 ASU volleyball team (9-1) cruised to a straight sets victory over Cal Poly Friday night 25-19, 25-14, 25-19.
The No. 18 ASU volleyball team is home.
