Palm Walk Runway: The Final Walk

By May 2, 2011 at 7:29 am

As cliché as it sounds, all good things have to come to an end. And with saying that, Palmwalk Runway too must come to an end. Now, because this is my final blog, I thought that I would change things up a bit, and introduce you to the other side of the camera—your very own Marlee Bever.

I had a difficult time deciding what outfit to wear, however after five dresses, some shirts, and accessories, I decided to pick something that represents my style the most.

Many people would tell me that I tend to always buy vintage, lacy, frilly, and of course, girly type clothing. And as much as I think it is important to try new styles and deviate away from the same look, I have a look that I love.

Palm Walk Runway: Natural Beauty

By April 30, 2011 at 12:01 am

Now, I know that I have always been a little wary of organic or natural beauty products. But without trying them myself, I have no real expertise on whether it is really better for you or not.

However, after reading an article on whowhatwear.com by Erin Lee Smith, a knowledgeable makeup artist on eco-friendly beauty products, really changed my outlook on natural products.

In the article, Erin went through individual products that would be used daily in preparation for the day and described what natural ingredient each product contains.

Palm Walk Runway: Conscious Trend

By April 25, 2011 at 12:01 am

In honor of this year’s Earth Day, I decided to write both blogs on a recent, yet inspiring, trend that is spreading everywhere. I like to call this trend simply as the eco-friendly fashion.

Now, when I used to think of recyclable clothing, the image of burlap sack material and recycled bangles would come to mind.

However, as I was recently shopping at H&M, I discovered an entire collection of eco-friendly clothing. And without the specific tag describing the recycled material used for the garment, I would have thought no different.

Palm Walk Runway: Colorful Palette

By April 23, 2011 at 12:01 am

Many times people are always wondering what type of bag they should buy for the season, and this spring, the only answer is: a bright bag.  No matter what the style—a long strap bag, a drawstring bag, or a fun clutch—make sure you choose a color that definitely stands out.

Greens are a definite color that is in. Whether you decide to go for the bright neon greens, or the more subtle greens, you can’t go wrong.

The blues, pinks, yellows, and oranges are also along the color scheme, and give that great spring look. The bold colors may be a bit intimidating and it may sway you from wearing it with everything, but in reality bold colors look great with a variety of color schemes.

Palm Walk Runway: Classic Prep

By April 18, 2011 at 7:17 am

With new flowers blooming, so are spring trends. I love when the light, flowy clothing unravels from closets when the weather becomes hotter. No longer do we have to debate whether or not to wear pants or not. The warm, 90-degree weather is here to stay.

The preppy, spring look is a definite look this season. Everywhere on campus I am seeing more of the Sperry trend, adding to the preppy look. Freshman Annica Benning is definitely sporting the classic prep look.

On top, Annica is wearing a simple, light blue button-up shirt. This type of shirt is perfect for those warmer days with a light breeze. On bottom she is wearing navy blue, striped shorts with pink anchor detailing—a definite preppy look. I like how Annica’s outfit is simple, yet her shorts still give her outfit the right amount of detailing.

Palm Walk Runway: The Braids Are Back

By April 16, 2011 at 12:01 am

I used to think that if someone braided their hair on top of their head or in a circular way, that they either looked like Princess Leia or a little Dutch girl.

However, now with intricate braid buns and braids on top of the head showing up on runways and in the fashion world, I am beginning to have a different outlook on the style.

The polished, yet bold look started with the slicked back, simple ponytail, and then the slicked back ballerina bun. Now, the polish look is the crazy, intricate braids.

Palm Walk Runway: Bright and Bold

By April 11, 2011 at 12:01 am

Even with a few gloomy days of spring showers, the weather is definitely not stopping fashionistas around campus.

Fashionista Courtney Cordoba took advantage of the sunshine one afternoon before the clouds decided to visit us yet another time.

I was immediately drawn to the fuchsia color of Courtney’s dress. Not only is the color of her dress saying spring, but the light flowy feel and delicate detail at the bottom is perfect for a sunny, casual day.

This unique bracelet complements all outfits. Photo courtesy of ProenzaSchouler.com

As I was searching for various fashion trends, I came across a very unique bracelet. Designer Proenza Schouler has a collection of bracelets that look as if they were made with a rock climber’s bungee cords, and carabiner clasps.

The bracelets are made in a variety of colors and designs, each one completely different from the other.
