A new classroom building under construction on campus will bear the name of ASU's retiring president.

The Arizona Board of Regents dedicated the new structure on the west side of campus to ASU President Lattie Coor, who will retire from 12 years of service on June 30.

The Lattie F. Coor Mediated Classroom building will be a 270,000 square-foot structure costing $58.7 million. The site of Visitor Lot 8 on Myrtle Avenue is undergoing preparation for the building's construction.

Vice President of Institutional Advancement Jack Pfister spoke about the naming of the building at the ABOR meeting in Flagstaff. He said the classroom facility is a tribute for "a distinguished leader and visionary for ASU and higher education in Arizona."

The mediated classrooms will be equipped with computers, projectors and other multimedia tools. The building will include an office tower and a computer lab, and is scheduled to open spring 2004.
