It was one of the main focal points of both the swimming and diving teams before the season began and now the Pac-10 Championship meet has arrived.
The meet begins today with preliminary swimming and diving events and continues until Saturday in Federal Way, Wash.
The ASU men's and women's teams head into the meet searching for NCAA qualifying times and improvements on last seasons finishes at the meet.
Last season the women's squad finished sixth in the Pac-10, just like they have for the last seven conference championships.
Sophomore Ågnes Kovåcs will be expected to perform well as she has all season. Kovåcs will be defending her Pac-10 title in the 200 breaststroke and ASU is hoping she has a repeat performance from last season when she set a conference record in the event.
Freshman diver Joona Puhakka will look to continue his amazing start as a Sun Devil, undefeated in dual competition, and figures to be an important part of the championship meet.
The meet is also one of the final chances for some athletes to record NCAA qualifying times and points as the NCAA championships are right around the corner in mid-March.
After the initial conference meet concludes on Saturday, a Pac-10 women's invitational is scheduled for Sunday and is an approved "Last Chance" meet for athletes that have yet to post a qualifying score.
