After a regular season of men's basketball that saw many teams push up and down the top-25 ladder, it appeared as though this year's NCAA tournament was one built for Cinderellas.
But after the first two rounds, it now seems as if all that popular belief has been thrown out the window.
The No. 1 seeds in the tournament are a perfect 8-0, with all four advancing to the Sweet Sixteen. Also, two No. 2 seeds, three No. 3 seeds and three No. 5 seeds advanced. That leaves a No. 6, 7,10 and 12 left - not the most exhilarating lineup to try on the prestigious slipper.
Additionally, the No. 6 seed is Maryland, which won the national title last year. Not much of a Cinderella. Michigan State, a No. 7 seed, went to the crystal ballroom in 2000. That leaves two viable candidates for Cinderella's heart - or foot - Auburn and Butler.
Many thought Auburn shouldn't have even made the tournament, while Butler was slighted last season and narrowly saw its tournament hopes slashed again due to the fact it plays in the Horizon Conference. Both have shown potential in their early-round upsets, but watch out Cinderella, the No. 1 seeds are on fire. She might have to wait until next year for her slipper.
