In the fourth inning of Tuesday's Diamondbacks' game against Colorado, Rockies pitcher Shawn Chacon plunked Arizona outfielder Danny Bautista high on the shoulder. Bautista walked up the first base line with his bat still in hand.
After a brief exchange of words, Bautista appeared to lose control when he cocked the bat back as if to hurl it at Chacon. Benches cleared, bullpens emptied, but nothing happened.
The umpire quickly tossed Bautista from the game and rightfully so.
But because nothing further happened, Major League Baseball should leave well enough alone. Bautista should not be suspended or fined, as was hinted at by Arizona broadcaster Thom Brennaman.
Danny was obviously offended at getting beaned by a crooked-cap chump like Chacon. And his frustration with the lack of production at the plate - he's batting a whopping .206 - was obvious.
But I repeat, nothing happened.
And MLB should do the same: nothing.
