Devil Dish: Maddening obsession goes too far


When I picked up a copy of Madden 2004 for my PlayStation 2, I didn't know what I was getting into.

I had no idea that the game would lead me down a road of missed classes, missed deadlines and sleepless nights.

In a two-week period, I took my beloved Denver Broncos to two playoff appearances, losing a wild-card game to the Steelers in the first one, then winning the Super Bowl on a touchdown run by Clinton Portis in the closing seconds against the Rams.

But, John Madden's insightful commentary was consuming my life, so I swore off it. A month later, I think I'm a better person for it.
