Police Beat: Don't mess with Southern Ave.


Tempe police reported the following incidents Sunday:

A 43-year-old Tempe man was arrested on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia near the 2000 block of East Apache Boulevard. After a traffic stop, police found a small methamphetamine pipe, an uncapped syringe containing clear liquid and a marijuana pipe.

A 37-year-old transient man was arrested on a charge of aggressive solicitation near the 0 block of East Sixth Street. He allegedly asked two female subjects for money and when they refused, he picked up a metal pipe and started beating it against a wall while staring at them.

A 43-year-old transient woman was arrested on charges of shoplifting, theft of a credit card, fraudulent use of a credit card, forgery and possession of drug paraphernalia near the 900 block of East Broadway Road. She allegedly tried to pay for three bottles of alcohol with a stolen credit card. Upon inspection, she was found to be in possession of a crack pipe, a forged check and a stolen checkbook.

A 41-year-old transient woman was arrested on a charge of criminal littering near the 200 block of West Southern Avenue. After she was observed not using the crosswalk while crossing Southern Avenue, police issued her a citation and she threw it onto the street. After a warning, she picked it back up and threw it again. She then told officers, "take me to jail."
