Devil Dish: Hockey in the Valley

The NHL season was scheduled to begin Oct. 13. Now, almost a month later, the All-Star Game has been canceled. It is looking more and more like this season may never happen.

But, hockey does go on in the Valley. In fact, it goes on at ASU. The Sun Devil Hockey Club is ranked No. 9 in the country. It has a record of 5-1, including two victories over rival UA. These players don't fight over money. As a matter of fact, they pay to be able to skate together in the rink.

There are no "owners" at the college level. The coaches donate their time to try to make a difference. The Sun Devils practice hard and play even harder. They do it all for a love of the game. And they do it all right here in Tempe.

For hockey fans, Tempe Oceanside Arena might be the only place to see some fantastic action on the ice this year.
