Every generation has its 90210, right? The O.C. is ours.
Throughout this semester I'll be writing a weekly column about the third season of The O.C.
I'm like you. I love The O.C. The drama is intense, the characters are hot, and their lifestyle is fascinating.
Here we go, the third season has begun. About time! So wasn't the first episode rad?
We all know that Marissa did the right thing at the end of season two. If she lets Trey ding Ryan in the head with the rotary telephone, Ryan would be dead and Trey would be in jail. It must be so hard for Marissa to live with the fact that she actually shot someone and put him in a coma. Especially considering that it's her lover boy's brother.
Ryan is probably never going to change, but he's cool as is, right? Someone tries to rape his girl and he's willing to risk everything to seek payback. Brother or not, Ryan did what he had to do. Summer said it best while lounging by the mansion pool with Marissa, "You got to admit Coop, whatever happens, Ryan facing up with Trey to avenge your honor. God, that is so freaking hot."
About Julie Cooper, yes, she's a psycho-tramp, but I must say, I can't wait to see what she's up to next week. By the way, she is the most dynamic and unpredictable character on The O.C.
So we know that Julie has paid-off people before to get her way, or at least tried to (remember the beefy pool-boy?), but to put herself in the middle of an attempted murder case is nuts. Yes, it is her daughter at stake, but not really, right? Or wait. Maybe when Julie says she's protecting her family she actually means that she's protecting her reputation. We all know that Marissa would have gone innocent. She shot Trey to save Ryan's life. That's that.
The situation at the rehab place is pretty intense. Kirsten has been gone the whole summer, and correct me if I'm wrong, but she has no idea about the whole attempted-rape-revenge-shooting-coma-thing. Sandy, although a good husband, he's a better lawyer. Keeping this entire issue from Kirsten is the right thing to do at this time. She doesn't need more stress in her life. Her dad just died, her marriage could be better, and she's trying to cope with an addiction that's not easily broken.
Is it just me, or does Ryan not end up in a blue jumpsuit like every six episodes? Thank God his women is smarter than he is. If Marissa doesn't get Trey to write the confession Ryan will be accused of the shooting and Trey will be up 20 grand.
It pains me to see Ryan as Trey leaves on the Greyhound. Hate, love, depression, frustration, embarrassment and a bunch of other stuff is all over Ryan's face. He is simply overwhelmed. But, he has the Cohens, and he definitely has Marissa.
A few quickies before I go:
• Can Seth and Summer keep it together for a whole school year or will they call it quits and head off to different colleges at the end of the season?
• How long can Kirsten go before falling off the sober-wagon?
• Anna was way cool in season one. Who would Seth choose if she happened to come back?
• Will season three fulfill our expectations?
This column is not just about my opinion of The O.C. I want to know what's on your mind too.
Send your comments and predictions to dswier83@yahoo.com. Some will appear in next week's column.
In the O.C. nothing is simple, and that's the way we like it.
See ya next week!
