Beginning in the 2007-08 school year, the Undergraduate Student Government senate could shrink to have one senator per college.
At a meeting Tuesday, the Senate discussed the new constitution that was drafted April 1 and 2.
Under the new constitution, there would be one senator per college.
This year, the population of a college determined the number of senators.
Senate President Cledwyn Jones said the goal was to make the senate smaller.
"Our solution was to move toward a more community-based model," he said.
USG Vice President Liz Simonhoff said one senator per college would simplify the senate.
"It's more quality, rather than quantity," she said. "You only have to seek out one representative."
Four at-large representatives would also be elected under the new constitution.
"[They would] try to represent the overall opinion and ideas of the student body," Jones said.
Senators also debated the structure and powers of USG's executive branch as outlined in the new constitution.
Senators voted to discuss the constitution again by next Thursday.
The document would have to be approved by the senate and the student body before it could go into effect.
