Mill Avenue is a haven for divas, drunks and disasters alike. Adding another watering hole to the mix of Tempe bars is nothing new, but a hangout that also serves fresh Mexican food after last-call?
That just makes sense.
Chronic Tacos has a full menu featuring all the classics, including burritos, quesadillas, tamales, tortas, nachos and their special "Fatty Tacos." Although there are other bars that serve food, Chronic Tacos elevates the experience by using top-quality meats, fresh veggies, warm tortillas and salsa made daily.
"I know that, after I've had some beers, I want Mexican food," says James Neal Jr., who owns the bar with Scott Price and Tim McCormac. At Chronic Tacos, there is no need to leave. Last call is at 2 a.m., but the kitchen stays open until 3 a.m. So don't worry, there's still an hour available for taco binges.
Chronic Taco's atmosphere makes the bar truly unique in Tempe.
Once inside, patrons are greeted with what Neal describes as "Day of the Dead, tattoo-style artwork." The tops of the walls are lined with Virgin de Guadalupe candles, and the air conditioning vents are capped with classic "low-rider"-style rims.
The music adds to the ambiance as well. "We play a little bit of punk, hard rock, some country and old school hip-hop," Neal says.
There are over 20 Chronic Tacos locations in California, but this is the first in Arizona, Neal says.
"We were born and raised in Arizona. We all went to ASU," Neal says. "It just made sense."
Chronic Tacos is simple, inviting, and most importantly, tasty. "Good food, cold drinks," Neal says. What more do you want?
