Boo: to bad neighbors in Tempe for keeping their homes so poorly maintained. Honestly, we understand not feeling like doing the yard work, so we're willing to give some leeway on those slumming neighbors out there. But we can't speak for others — Mr. Rogers would have set aside the cardigan sweater and possibly stabbed a man if he saw some of the wrecks scattered around Tempe.
Bravo: to clubs on campus for continued support of their third party of choice no matter how much more media love is given to the Democrats and Republicans. As Kermit the Frog said best, it's not easy being Green. And even if our favorite amphibian never sang about how it's not easy being Libertarian, we still think they still deserve some love too. So kudos to the ASU Campus Greens and the ASU Students for Liberty — keep fighting the good fight.
Boo: to the pool of money for Sunburst scholarships drying up and leaving our undocumented peers out of luck. So much has been written on good ole' Prop 300, and even more has been written about the wider immigration issue. But it still boils down to this: We have qualified, diligent students seeking a college education, and since when has it been not in the American spirit to help someone in that situation?
Bravo: to mathematics sophomore Mary Cameron who was featured in SPM this week as a triathlon extraordinaire. According to the article, Cameron has completed five triathlons in the past six months and we must admit, we're quite impressed.
Boo: to members of our state's House Committee on High Education for poorly amending the textbook bill. The bill, initially supposedly to help us out with textbook prices, got softened into nothingness with the notable omissions of a "bundling" ban and a price-disclosure requirement. Golly gee, that's going to be really, really helpful. Thanks a lot, House members!
Bravo: to the inception of the Spanish language option on Facebook.com. Really, it's a pretty sweet deal — it makes our Spanish-speaking friends happy, and it gives us yet another way to punk our gringo friends. Either way, we win … at least until we get about 20 invitations to join both the Spanish and English versions of every stupid application.
Boo: to fifth-graders. As stated in Monday's cover story, of the 150 fifth graders who visited our campus on last week, only 28 might actually graduate college from ASU. Naturally, this stat made us think that maybe our pre-teen pals aren't working hard enough. So come on, little kids, we're not messing around: Step it up. And make sure to "Be cool and stay in school." Or, alternatively, "Don't be a tool, get yourself educated, fool."
Bravo: to ASU's ownership of the NCAA spring sports season. With baseball and men's track coming in at No. 1 in the national rankings, we're feeling good. And with women's track (No. 2) and softball (No. 4) not doing too shabby either, we're feeling even better. It's a good day to be a Devil.
