A new pedestrian scrambles connects Taylor Place, the Cronkite School building, the University Center and the Beus Center for Law and Society. It allows students on the Downtown Phoenix campus to navigate both quickly and safely. Whenever a pedestrian scramble is activated, all vehicle traffic is stopped, allowing for pedestrians to cross diagonally if needed.

Athena Aktipis, an ASU psychology professor, has hosted the educational podcast, "Zombified," for three seasons now alongside her co-host David "Dave" Lundberg-Kenrick. Now, the pair have teamed up with the Zombie Apocalypse Medicine Alliance to create Channel Zed, a zombie-themed streaming network made to educate and entertain.

This year, the Arizona State Fair is a little different. There are no games or rides, but there remains one thing — food. Arizona residents and visitors can experience the drive-thru state fair in the comfort of their cars, driving to each stall and ordering their favorite fair food.

Earlier this year, ASU's Biodesign Institute developed a saliva-based test for COVID-19. The test is quick, taking approximately 25 minutes with results produced in less than 48 hours. David Gillum, senior director of Environmental Health and Safety at ASU, and Vel Murugan, the program and technical director at ASU's Biodesign Institute, explain what happens as the test travels from the testing site to the laboratory.

Many ASU students have found themselves spending late nights downtown in The Grand, a local cafe. This student favorite has quite a history and a unique owner, Steven Rogers. Rogers has been in the nightlife scene for a long time, running nightclubs all around Phoenix for years. He sat down over some coffee to talk dining, nightlife and his passion for design.

Jonah Ivy, a senior double majoring in civic and economic thought and leadership and spanish, is the president of Gardens at ASU. The club is dedicated to teaching students the skills they need to garden and live a more sustainable lifestyle. Ivy said not only is gardening a passion, but a healthy way of life. As the president of the club, he has a vision for the club and a hope that other students at ASU see the benefits of a plant-based lifestyle.

From Oct. 2 to Oct. 7, ASU hosted the My Lai Memorial Exhibit at its Downtown Phoenix campus. The exhibit, run by Chicago Veterans for Peace, teaches visitors about the horrors of the Vietnam War, with a special focus on the My Lai Massacre of 1968.

Sun Devil sports teams are always supported by their student sections. It is the duty of the 942 Crew to organize and promote athletic events. Jessica Hollock, the Design Committee Chair and Robert Silver, the Game Experience and Student Section Leading Committee Chair spoke about their passion for supporting clubs in the 942 Crew. From the excited crowds to the chants and cheers, the student-run 942 Crew is tasked with bringing the Sun Devil community together. They help get students excited before, during and after each game.
