'Don’t Drink and Vagina,' the Student Response

Most nights of drunken fraternizing end with a permanent-marker penis elaborately drawn on one’s forehead. Case closed. But oftentimes, Friday nights take a darker turn. SPM spoke with ASU students to determine the relationship between alcohol and sexual assault. We found there’s a difference between correlation and causation and the one taking the risk versus the one who carries the responsibility.

Asexuals Are Not Alone

College is known to be a hotbed for sexual activities and experimentation. This may make attending college uncomfortable or even hostile to those who do not experience sexual attraction. Aces of Arizona, an organization for asexual students at ASU, hopes to change that.

YouTube Sensation: Making A Career Out Of Pranking

SPM Prankster from The State Press on Vimeo. When he’s not studying film and directing at Mesa Community College, Dawson Gurley is a professional prankster. He is planning on transferring to ASU next fall, but in the meantime, he frequently visits the campus to film footage for his YouTube channel, BigDawsTV. With over 28,000 subscribers, he entertains his audience by creating prank videos ranging from “Awkwardly Staring at Strangers”, “Falling in Public”, to Messing with ASU Sun Devils. The weirdest reaction he’s ever encountered happened when his friend was greeted with a fist to the face while in the middle of pranking someone for a video. His channel has over 2,000,000 views and counting, and Gurley says he is looking forward to seeing where his videos will take him. Reach the producer at ltnguy14@asu.edu or via Twitter @luu_t_nguyen

Embracing Every Size

The average size of an American woman today is a size 14, yet ironically, this size and any above are very difficult to find in your average retail-clothing store. Phoenix clothing boutique Vox aims to combat this issue by serving the “average” woman and a curvier audience.

A Driver's Turning Point

A Driver's Turning Point from The State Press on Vimeo. When I penned the article, “Moving On,” about nine months ago, I wrote it with no delusions and notions as to where it’s author would be in the following days and months. It started as a pitch that sounded appealing to a reader, and it helped that our SPM editorial staff was receptive to a story about the writer. In the case of said pitch, it was a hypothetical fascination of a tangent ventured by my classmates in the Western American Literature class only months earlier, which got the boulder rolling. The content of which obviously sparked something within me to cause it to resurface soon thereafter.
