I like to think that I was born in the wrong decade — the 1990s as opposed to the 1950s.
Instead of listening to Justin Bieber or Nicki Minaj like most girls my age should be, I’m musically stuck in the 70s and 80s (with the exception of bands like Ghost, Foxy Shazam, and Avenged Sevenfold). I blast KISS, Ozzy Osbourne, and Megadeth on my way to school instead of bumping Skrillex, or whatever people call it these days.
Music has always been my passion. I started playing the violin when I was about 3 years old in a mariachi band. When I was in third grade, my mother bought me Queen’s Greatest Hits album, and I’ve been hooked on rock n’ roll ever since. Now, you can usually spot me on campus wearing a black band tee 90 percent of the time, cargo shorts or jeans, and a “very 80s” hairstyle, as a woman from Petsmart put it.
“So why is she writing an art blog?” you ask.
Part of the reason I took up this blog is to bring awareness to artists who otherwise would not be able to speak out to YOU: the SPM audience.I hope to find provocative works that inspire you, tug on your heart-strings, and make you think and feel. I do not want this to be an average blog, if such a thing exists. I wish to delve into territory most people would be afraid to cover.
To recycle a horribly overused (but true) quote by an unknown author, “The earth without art is just ‘eh.'” I couldn’t agree more. I hope you enjoy “Art Murmur,” which will be published Mondays and Thursdays.
