After a two-day runoff campaign, genetics and cell development biology junior Cassidy Possehl was announced Friday as the Tempe Undergraduate Student Government President for the 2014-15 school year.

She defeated business management and entrepreneurship junior Emily McCaleb with 2,374 votes to McCaleb's 2,031.

After winning the first election by 8 percent but not winning the majority 50 percent plus one vote, Possehl was ready to get back to work after last week’s announcement.

Sticking to her “Students First” campaign Possehl tabled around campus and met again with organizations and clubs to spread her message and her ticket’s platform.

Possehl will now take over for President Jordan Davis at the end of the Spring semester and will be the Tempe campus’s first female president since Elizabeth Siminhoff during the 2007-08 school year.

Marketing junior Brian Salerno will be her Vice President of Services, and political science junior Nicholas VandenNieuwenhof will be her Vice President of Policy.

Possehl ran on a platform that included website to address and enhance student engagement, more involvement with the Tempe City Council, improved health services for students living on campus, more transparency involving student fees, an enhanced game day experience, a student clubs and organizations center, a bi-monthly student forum where students can voice their opinion and better veteran student benefits.
