Tempe Police: Man tries to swallow heroin from penis after arrest from traffic stop


Tempe Police reported the following incidents Wednesday:

A 38-year-old Scottsdale man was arrested Feb. 10 at North Scottsdale Road and East Enterprise Drive on suspicion of possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia and having an outstanding warrant, according to the police report.

Officers approached the man during a traffic stop in which he was a passenger in the front seat, officers reported. Police conducted a records check, which revealed his outstanding warrant, according to the report.

Officers placed the man under arrest and searched him, according to the report. Officers found several used syringes and a spoon with burnt residue, police reported.

The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where officers conducted a strip search, according to the report. During the search, the man grabbed a black tar substance wrapped in plastic from under his penis and attempted to swallow it, officers reported.

Officers grabbed the man to stop him from swallowing the substance, according to police.

The man was booked into Tempe City Jail and held to see a judge, according to the report.
