In the final game of the regular season, ASU water polo wanted a win against long time rival Cal. After a long home stretch, the Sun Devils traveled to Berkeley, California, and lost 7-5 .

Three of ASU’s five goals would come off of power plays, where the team successfully capitalized on 6-on-5 situations.

The Sun Devils would come out of the of the gates running, with junior attacker Daisy Carter, sophomore attacker Izabella Chiappini and junior center Abbey Kerth all scoring one goal apiece to put ASU up 3-1 at the end of the first quarter.

The offense slowed in second quarter of play, as the Sun Devils would not score a single goal in the quarter, and Cal would take advantage of it, scoring three of its own goals to take a 4-3 lead at halftime.

Carter would score her second goal of the game in the third period, being the only Sun Devil to find the back of the net in the period. Cal on the other hand would continue its offensive barrage, and score another three goals to put them up 7-4 with one quarter of play remaining.

ASU would rally, trying to cut the deficit, and although it would not allow a goal in the fourth quarter, freshman attacker Claudia Abad was the only player who managed to find the back of the net on a skip shot, but it was too little, too late. The Sun Devils would be unable to complete a comeback, and would fall to Cal 7-5. The Sun Devils would be without scoring powerhouse Chiappini for most of the final quarter of play, as she would be ejected from the game early in the fourth.

Redshirt junior goalkeeper E.B. Keeve finished with three saves, and four goals against. Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Mia Rycraw would substitute in for Keeve at halftime, and would finish with five saves and three goals against. Carter would lead the team in scoring with her two goals.
