ASU cross country sweeps Dave Murray Invitational in Tucson

The men's and women's squads each earned top marks

The ASU cross country team took the top spot in both the men’s and women’s races at the Dave Murray Invitational at the Dell Urich Golf Course Friday afternoon in Tucson.

On the men's side, ASU placed eight runners inside the top ten including sweeping the first six finishes for a total of 16 points.

Redshirt senior Ryan Herson came in first place with a time of 21:27:00 and redshirt junior CJ Albertson was a close second, finishing with a time of 21:40:00.

On the women’s side, the Sun Devils placed seven runners inside the top 10. They also claimed the top spot.

ASU freshman Samantha Ortega took first place overall with a time of 16:50.00 for her first collegiate win.

Seniors Adriana Olivas and Cristina Juan Torres finished in fourth and fifth, respectively. Olivas crossed the finish line with a time of 17:04.00 while Juan Torres notched a time of 17:06.00.

The ASU women scored 25 points to take first place in Tucson.

Sun Devil Cross-Country is off until Friday, Oct. 2 when the team heads east for the Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Indiana. The meet is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.
