ASU wrestling split the dual meet at Champaign, Ill., beating Southern Illinois University Edwardsville 38-6 and losing to Illinois 27-9 at the Illinois Duals.

The Sun Devils breezed past the Southern Illinois Cougars, not losing a match until freshman Tanner Hall was pinned by redshirt senior Chris Johnson in the heavyweight division.

A total of 10 ASU wrestlers tallied wins against Southern Illinois including seniors Ares Carpio and Matt Kraus.

The script was flipped when ASU faced the host school Illinois. ASU came away with an opening win but it wasn't an easy one as Carpio narrowly edged Francis Edelen 8-6.

After a series of tough losses, Kraus clinched a come from behind victory with two takedowns that netted him an 8-6 overtime victory over redshirt sophomore Kyle Landenderfer.

That might have served as a momentum changer for the Sun Devils but instead they dropped three consecutive matches and got only one more win before the end of the match.

The split weekend leaves ASU's record at 4-2 on the season. Meanwhile, redshirt senior Blake Stauffer is still unbeaten on the year.

The Sun Devils will compete this Friday at Columbus, Ohio to face Ohio State at 5 p.m.
