Tempe Police reported the following incidents Tuesday:

A 28-year-old Mesa man was arrested Jan. 3 on the 700 block of West University Drive on suspicion of aggravated assault and resisting arrest, according to a police report.

Officers responded to an anonymous call reporting trouble at an apartment, police reported. After investigating the situation, officers discovered that the man and the female apartment owner had met at a bar on Mill Avenue, according to the report.

The two went back to her place to meet a mutual friend and the woman invited the man inside to use the bathroom, according to the report.

Inside the apartment, the man said he believed the woman was making sexual advances at him, police reported. As he got closer to her, she told him she was not "sexually inviting him," police reported.

Then, the man became upset and attacked the woman by sitting on her and punching her, according to the report.

The woman had swelling and severe bruises on the left side of her face and lost vision in her left eye as a result, according to the report. She was transported to a local hospital by Tempe Fire Department, police reported.

The man called police to report that the woman had "choked" him, however, there were no visible signs of injury on the man, police reported.

After placing the man under arrest, the man became passively resistant and non-compliant while being placed in the back of the police car, police reported. He pushed back against the car, refused to step in, spun away from the car and and pulled his body weight away from the officer, according to the report.

The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and held to see a judge, according to the report.
