Tempe police reported the following incident Wednesday:

A Phoenix man was arrested March 18 on the 300 block of West Lakeview Drive on suspicion of criminal trespassing, according to a police report.

Valley Metro surveillance observed the man and his friend walk across the light rail bridge over Tempe Town Lake, police reported.

Because the men had blocked the tracks, the light rail needed to stop in the middle of the bridge, according to the report.

After the light rail conductor honked the train’s horn to get the pair’s attention, the man turned and held up his middle finger, police reported.

The man and his friend continued walking across the bridge until an officer arrived to stop them, according to the report.

During an interview, the man said he and his friend had previously partied on Mill Avenue, police reported.

Both men said they had decided to follow the tracks to get back to where their car was parked, according to the report.

The man said he did not see the numerous “no trespassing” signs, though he “knew it was wrong” to be on the bridge, police reported.

The man was transported to Tempe City Jail, where he was booked and held to see a judge, according to the report.
