Fresno State head coach Trisha Ford has been hired as the new head coach of ASU softball, athletic director Ray Anderson announced Wednesday.

Ford boasts a record of 142-71-1 since 2012 when she was hired as the Bulldogs' head coach. Fresno State finished last season 42-12-1, its second consecutive 40-win season and the second straight season that Ford was named Mountain West Coach of the Year.

“One of the greatest indicators of future success is what someone has accomplished in their past, and based on Trisha’s achievements, we anticipate she will bring great success to Sun Devil Athletics,” Anderson said in a statement to Sun Devil Athletics. “She has elite expectations and recognized the innovative direction that Arizona State is heading. She has great energy and I believe our student-athletes will buy into her vision for the program.”

ASU spent the 2016 season with co-interim head coaches Robert Wagner and Letty Olivarez at the helm after former head coach Craig Nicholson resigned due to health concerns. The Sun Devils went 32-26 (6-17 Pac-12) before being ousted in the Baton Rouge regional final by LSU.
