The ASU men's swim and dive team finished the final two days of the NCAA Championships with one the best performances in recent program history.

The Sun Devils combined for 62 points in the final two days of the championships in Indianapolis, Indiana, fueled by an electrifying performance by their relay teams.

Day 3: Sun Devils earn well deserved recognition

ASU came into day three of the NCAA Championships with 38 points, and after a long evening of races the night before, the team doubled its points on Friday.

Several of the Sun Devil men earned All-American accolades for their performances.

Versatile freshmen Cameron Craig took home fifth place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:32.46. His top-five finish secured him an All-American accolade and 14 points for ASU.

Senior backstroke specialist Richard Bohus and graduate student Andrew Porter both swam well enough to receive Honorable Mention All-American honors.

Bohus earned his award for a 13th place (45.74) performance in the 100-yard backstroke.

Porter worked for his accolade in the 100-yard butterfly, where he placed 11th and broke his own school record (45.59).

In addition to having a night full of remarkable individual performances, ASU brought an impressive team performance in the 200-yard medley relay.

Juniors Christian Lorenz and Patrick Park, along with Bohus and Porter made up ASU’s medley relay team that placed 12th with a time of 1:24.42. By finishing the evening with a strong team performance, ASU ended the third night of competition with 68 points and found themselves in 14th place overall.

Head coach Bob Bowman said the way his team has swam in this season’s championships is truly something special.

“We will look forward to closing the meet out in strong fashion tomorrow and fight for as many team points as we can,” Bowman said through Sun Devil Athletics. “This has been a pivotal meet for our program. I am extremely proud of our athletes and staff."

Day 4: ASU's point total hits triple digits

The Sun Devils wrapped up the NCAA Championships with a solid performance that resulted in them finishing the meet with exactly 100 points.

ASU’s major bright spot was their 400-yard freestyle relay team, which placed sixth overall with a time of 2:49.00.

Bohus was able to add six points to the Sun Devils’ total in the 200-yard backstroke. He placed 11th in the event (1:40.19.)

Freshman Youssef Selim and junior Heikki Makikallio placed 17th and 18th in the platform dives, just barely missing the opportunity to add points to ASU's total.

However, the Sun Devils finished in 14th place with 100 points -- 30 spots higher and 98 points more than they did in last year’s championships.
