He throws on his red and yellow long-sleeved top with polka dots on the sleeves. He slips on his large, shiny blue and yellow shoes and ties his red laces. Finally, he adds his rainbow curly-haired fro to complete his look. He leaves his house to begin the day “clowning around.”

At first glance, the brown metal racks appear to be full of multicolored bikes. Upon taking a second glance the picture isn’t as perfect as you thought. It becomes noticeable that the turquoise bike to your left is missing a wheel and the shiny red bicycle a couple bikes over is without a seat. Remnants of a broken lock near an empty rack signify that one student’s mode of transportation may have found a new owner.

At 5 years old, she knew she wanted to play the violin. She was persistent for an entire year, begging and praying that her parents would come around. In a family where she and her sisters were required to play the piano, she would be heading into uncharted territory. With her parents unfamiliar with the instrument, she continued to push for the chance to play the violin.
