You've walked around campus and seen them on almost every girl.

They are the big black platform shoes that add about three inches in height to anyone that wears them. Rocket Dogs, along with other brands such as Roxy and Voltaire, hit the ASU campus last year and have recently escalated in popularity.

Rocket Dogs, inspired by Japanese trends and its club scene, presented shoes to the trend-hungry youth market in 1998 and were almost immediately soaked up by the ASU campus.

During one of ASU's busiest hours, noontime, almost every other person is seen sporting what is called the "Jumbo Surf" style.

Kristen Christianson, a freshman physical therapy major, bought them because she "was looking for this [cream] color and I couldn't find other shoes with that color."

Lauren Ruffalo, a business senior said, "I got them a year after it started because my friend got them." She added, "I've worn them everyday since. They're a good investment and they're comfortable. I'm on my second pair."

For sophomores Susan Bergsden, Cassie Green and senior Adriana Falsetti, it was a matter of height.

"[Rocket Dogs] make me taller and they're cute," Bergsden said. "Pants are made so long you have to have the shoes."

Urban Outfitters, one of many stores that sell Rocket Dogs and styles like Jumbo Surf, sells these shoes for $34 and considers them one of their best sellers.

Shannon Martinson, a senior BIS major said, "On campus, they were selling tan and it's hard to find tan sandals." She added, "I got tan and white They're comfortable and they look cute with jeans and skirts."
