The ASU Greek system has taken another blow with Wednesday's news of Theta Chi's suspension.
"We have been given a sentence of a one year suspension and two years disciplinary probation," said fraternity member and Associated Students of ASU President Mike Leingang. "Which means being under close watch [and] you can expect check ups by police officers."
Theta Chi is the fourth fraternity to be suspended in the past year. Sigma Nu, Phi Sigma Kappa, and Sigma Phi Epsilon are the other three fraternities.
"(University officials) are shutting us down for not having control over our house and violating rules of code of conduct," said Leingang.
The fraternity's involvement in the pornographic video that has been gracing headlines since the first week of school is a contributing factor in the decision. No University officials were available to comment on the situation, and a formal letter regarding the suspension has not yet been sent.
Members of the entire Greek system are upset to see another fraternity lose its privileges. As a rush event went on inside, members outside the house had no comment about the situation.
"I don't agree with the decision and fully expect to be able to appeal," Leingang said. "With the current housing situation, a one year suspension is a death sentence."
