This girl is for real.

Every play, every goal and every effort is 100 percent pure, athletic and on target. Elizabeth Bogus is in a zone.

The freshman forward has helped lead the ASU soccer team to a 7-1-2 record, an impressive start for a team lacking veteran leadership. The inexperience isn't slowing this group, and it surely isn't affecting Bogus.

"We're doing really well and we're playing better as a team," Bogus said. "We still have a long road ahead of us. We haven't even started Pac-10 play yet, but we're continuing to prove ourselves."

Bogus was named the Pac-10 Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 24-30. It was a noble accomplishment, but didn't catch most people who knew what she did that weekend by surprise.

Bogus scored three goals, two of which were game winners, as ASU posted a pair of shutouts against Georgia and Auburn. The Sun Devils brought their shutout streak to five, which tied the mark for the longest in school history.

The prestigious award was a first for Bogus, but was the sixth all-time such honor for the Sun Devils. Freshman midfielder Brittany Cooper garnered Pac-10 Player of the Week accolades the previous week. However, Bogus doesn't focus too much on her personal accomplishments.

"It's cool, but I don't like to get too caught up in things like that," she said.

Bogus' presence was felt again last weekend when she passed a ball to Cooper that led to ASU's first of a season-high four goals against NAU. Bogus said her commitment to playing is her strongest contribution to the team.

"I'm working as hard as I can every second I'm out there," she said.

Bogus leads the Sun Devils in goals with six. She is tied for second place in school history in game winners with four. Bogus also has a team-high 13 points.

Bogus was named the Gatorade Utah High School Player of the Year after her senior season at Brighton High School in Sandy, Utah. She also received NSCAA Adidas Utah High School Player of the Year honors.

As a junior, Bogus participated in the Adidas ESP camp, an event that houses the nation's top 150 players. Bogus was a three-time Class 5A all-state first-team selection. She also earned second-team honors during her freshman year. Bogus holds state records in both career goals (79) and assists (27).

But all that is behind Bogus now, as she looks forward to the start of Pac-10 play, which will began Friday night when ASU hosts in-state rival UA at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium. Bogus plans on continuing to lay it on the line every match.

"We're playing really well right now," she said. "It's just a matter of improving and proving ourselves."
