GPA requirements for honors distinction may change

The ASU Academic Senate presented a proposal Monday afternoon to increase the standards required for students to graduate with honors.

Currently students have to earn at least a 3.4 GPA to graduate cum laude (with honors). This threshold could increase to 3.5 if the senate approves the plan at an April meeting. Minimum GPA requirements for magna and summa cum laude designations would increase by one-tenth of a point as well.

The GPA standings for honors distinctions would change as follows:

Summa Cum Laude: from 3.80 - 4.00 GPA to 3.90 - 4.00

Magna Cum Laude: from 3.60 - 3.79 GPA to 3.70 - 3.89

Cum Laude: from 3.40 - 3.59 GPA to 3.50 - 3.79
