Lisa Germano delivers a lullaby fit for people and perhaps even liquid pigs. Her ninth album, Lullaby for a Liquid Pig, which is scheduled to be released in April, blesses the listener with 36 minutes of deep, emotional exploration. The 12-track CD flirts with musical styles resembling Mazzy Star's catalyses of despair and Joan Osborne's strong vocal presence.
Germano, who has been recording albums for more than 10 years, has her own distinct style of composition, which embodies themes - at times - strikingly similar to Greek circus music and at other times folk music. The musical composition of Lullaby for a Liquid Pig takes a backseat to the Germano's dominant lyrical approach. Her vocal manner most certainly relates to soul-piercing, poetic lullabies.
One of the more compelling tracks on the album, "Candy," demonstrates within three minutes Germano's strengths of vocal craft and compassion for the unconventional and upbeat. However, the majority of the tracks on the album convey a sort of emotional dejected state with a hint of hope, mixing Germano's new school of music with a day of invited gloom.
Lullaby for a Liquid Pig may not seem like it's for everyone, but for the days when sinking into the depths of mental despair seems like to best thing to do, this CD would be a good companion.
