Brief: Tech transfer dept. speeds up research apps

A new technology transfer department at ASU will speed up the process of finding commercial applications for research beginning in April.

Arizona Technology Enterprises Chief Executive Officer Peter Slate said the department will focus on finding markets for researchers and will be hiring industry workers to increase efficiency.

The office will receive about $500,000 from Proposition 301 funding to help pay for research, said Jonathan Fink, ASU vice president for research and economic affairs. ASU's tech transfer program has been doing an excellent job of getting faculty and student inventions into the marketplace, Fink said.
