The cast from "A Chorus Line" rehearses a scene from the show. The performance will debut today at the Evelyn Smith Music Theatre.

Talented students from ASU will team up tonight when the Herberger College of Fine Arts Lyric Opera Theatre presents "A Chorus Line."

The unique cast also features students not only from the Music Theatre department, but also in biology, computer science, dance, broadcasting, theatre and voice.

"A Chorus Line" consists of a 30-member cast that was selected during auditions in October. The actors took part in a 12-week rehearsal workshop in a Broadway scenes class taught by senior lecturer Joann Yeoman.

Yeoman arranged for her students to have a master class with Tony award-winning actress and original cast member Donna McKechnie.

"'A Chorus Line' is a big production, showcasing 20 major roles and an ensemble of 30 or more," said Yeoman. "There is a variety of strengths in the cast and it's my job to bring them together and make them look good."

The unique musical tells the story of several dancers who audition for parts in a Broadway chorus and open up to the director and each other. The performers are eventually whittled down to eight final dancers.

The original production won the Tony for best musical in 1976 when it opened on Broadway.

"A Chorus Line" opens at 7:30 p.m. at the Evelyn Smith Music Theatre and runs through May 4. Tickets are $5 for students. For tickets and other show times call 480-965-6447.
