Devil Dish: War not time to protest for women golfers

All sports fans should give a collective thank you to the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals.

Wednesday, the court rejected Martha Burk's emergency request to allow protesters outside the front gate of Augusta National Golf Club.

While there is absolutely nothing wrong with Burk's desire to have the club allow women to join, the timing of the protest is all wrong.

Given the time we now live in, with our country at war, to protest at the game's biggest event just does not seem right. There is no doubt in my mind that women will one day be allowed to join Augusta - and rightfully so - but to force their entry at this time in history would be a mistake.
