A great former State Press editor once said, "Your success as editor depends on those you surround yourself with."
My success this semester has been due to those listed below and all the employees of The State Press and Student Media.
Joe Watson, I'm glad you stuck with us. And I'm going to miss what you bring to the newsroom - a contagious enthusiasm for breaking news and an eagle eye for the stories behind the scenes. Never lose that.
Katie Petersen, you've handled the stress of being opinion editor remarkably well. Thanks for presiding over the great velour debate. Your ideas have added a lot to the pages.
Andrew Bernick, sports editor extraordinaire, thanks for beating your deadlines and spending your last semester at ASU with us. You've made the sports section look great.
Tim Agne, thanks for disrupting your life and a promising building management career to be assistant sports editor. You're the stuff that good rap songs are made of.
Sean Gulley, you're Mr. Creativity. Some of our best photo illustrations have been your doing. I'm glad to have you back next semester.
David Lukens, please return safely from Iraq! I know you'll bring back stellar photos when you do.
Cameron Eickmeyer, "The Hog," thanks for always being so concerned about doing well as a city editor. You made the jump from sports to news seamlessly and helped train an awesome city desk crew.
Noah Austin, I won't publish your nickname for your sake. You came in and did an awesome job as city editor without having set foot in the dungeon before. We've been happy to "keep Austin weird."
Brie Iatarola, I have never seen a more thorough night editor. I'm sad that you're graduating and that I won't get to hear you complain about split infinitives anymore. Can we clone you?
Emily Murphy, I've been so thankful to have a capable State Press Magazine editor who hit the ground running. I never had to worry about whether the magazine would come out or how it would look. You've done a great job.
Joy Hepp, don't I know you? I'm happy that I do. Your ideas and creativity really show on the pages of SPM.
Benjamin Leatherman, you're so "quarky!" Thanks for always making the front page look great and not calling me too many names.
To all the editors, reporters and photographers who have put your heart and soul into breaking news for the paper this semester, I salute you. You all have bright futures in journalism.
And to readers, thanks for reading all of our hard work this semester. See you in the spring.
