On the Web: Space invaders and plastic crates

I've written about NASA's Web site in this space before, and I've compared Martha Stewart to Mothra. So writing an article based loosely upon outer space seems to be a fitting tribute to the recent landing on Mars.

Return to NASA's site and you will find a huge Flash presentation on the recent landing. Downloadable screen savers and wallpaper, as well as photos of the Red Planet, are at your fingertips. It's one small step for man and one huge step for the Internet.

This has inspired in me numerous philisophical musings on whether Martians are coming or whether we are the true space invaders. In order to push away such thoughts, I have turned to mindless, electronic alien bashing.

Visit The ultimate Space Invaders shrine and you can shoot aliens all you want. This Web site is both a forum for fans of the classic game and the home of a Flash emulator.

This site has gotten a lot of press for some reason. I just think it's a fine way to kill 15 minutes.

On a similar note, visiting Badmovies.org is another fine waste of time that loosely connects to the outer space theme ... anyway, you can find a lot more information about Howling III: The Marsupials than you ever dreamed that you could.

The front page also contains a screen shot of Jack Palance in The Shape of Things to Come, wearing what appears to be a $5 clear plastic crate from Target or similar stores.

There isn't much more to say on this topic than enjoy the cool 3D images being sent out from Mars.

One more thing ... take me to your leader.
