Editor's note: Last week, SPM featured local artists who are creating their own niches in the fashion scene. However, due to space issues, we could not feature three of the artists SPM writer Christina Chomut interviewed. We also incorrectly matched designer Liz Love's art with the wrong artist (Michele Tyler). The following is a continuation of the story along with a correction for the photo mix-up.
'Crazy beautiful'
Carson Quinn is an artist from Phoenix who holds his own in the competitive world of sterling silver. Quinn's grandfather passed down tools and an amazing eye for the "crazy beautiful." The custom silver pieces made by Quinn are unique and find their way into a place that is somewhere between the calibers of work fit for an Indonesian Princess and a British rock star.
His work ranges in price from $200 to $1600 and takes anywhere from three hours to 48 hours to make. As of now, LaLe Boutique, 1301 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale, is the only place displaying Quinn's work.
Gotta 'Love' it
Liz Love is a business marketing senior at ASU who understands what a challenging industry selling jewelry and art to the local public is. Inspired by her passion to make life creative and interesting, Love works with sterling silver, cherry quartz and a wide variety of Swarovski crystals to custom design each piece of jewelry.
"People tell me I am good, but others must think so too," Love says about her work. Love has a very good support system, with the primary focus on her silent business affiliate, her mother. Love says she enjoys making custom pieces and even has a line of baby bracelets for the fashionably young.
She displays her work at here on the corner on University Drive and College Avenue and Urban Angels in the Brickyard. Love adds she places different work in each shop to reflect the personality of the store and the diversity of her art.
Look good, feel good
Nearly every little girl loves to play dress-up and adores pretty, shiny bracelets and necklaces.
Noel Yuen, local designer and jewelry artist, could not share this girlish pastime with her three daughters until she began making personalized jewelry. Yuen's daughters are severely allergic to most metals, making it difficult for them to wear anything besides hypoallergenic pieces. As a result, Yuen uses all-natural Swarovski crystal, sterling silver and semi-precious stones in her work for her daughters. At the same time, she features children's jewelry and adult jewelry all over the Valley.
Yuen works with her partner, Jennifer Vianson, local artist and designer, on specific pieces in her collection. The "Noel Cuffs" are a collaboration from both designers.
Yuen's work can be found at Mandy's in the Borgata of Scottsdale, Blush at Gainey Ranch, Urban Angel's in Tempe and Petite Chateau in Phoenix.
