Frail Words Collapse
As I Lay Dying
Metal Blade
Who knew the label Metal Blade had a good hardcore band? I sure didn't!
As I Lay Dying is one of the best hardcore bands I have heard in quite some time. The band exemplifies the elements of what a good hardcore band should have: beautiful, intricate guitar work, heavy drums and great vocal screaming. They have mastered more than the basics, however.
On Frail Words Collapse, the band makes use of timing changes that come across casually, and its drummer stands out as a talent.
One of the best songs, "Forever," is an impressive melodic track. It is on this song that you first hear singing in the chorus. Yay! for hardcore boys who can sing!
The introduction for "Distance is Darkness" sounds evil, but the band tapers that feeling toward the middle of the song. As a result, I didn't want to listen past the first minute.
A quick warning: the fast pace of "The Beginning" can result in freakishly fast driving.
