The six friends once again succeed in making its audience laugh. In tonight's episode Phoebe attempts to teach Joey how to speak French, Chandler and Monica meet the mother they are going to adopt from and are surprised by a little secret, Rachel experiences a traumatic event, and of course the reason why we are all watching the show; Rachel and Ross give us a prelude to what will happen with their relationship for the upcoming episodes.

The show starts off in the Central Perk coffee shop when Joey gets extremely excited about an audition. The only problem is that the audition is suppose to be in French. Joey has no idea how to speak any other language besides English let alone French. Luckily, Pheobee knows how to speak the romantic language and offers to help Joey learn it in time for his audition. She has no idea what she is getting into.

On the other hand Chandler and Monica seem to know what they're getting into. Since Chandler and Monica are both infertile, they have decided to adopt. They meet the mother of their future baby and spend an entire weekend with her. When Chandler and Monica ask her who the father is, the mother hesitates and answers them with a "I'm not sure, he's either a college student at Harvard, or in Prison". This is not the response Monica and Chandler were expecting, so you can imagine how flabbergasted they became. They were determined to find out who the father was.

In the mince of all this Rachel stumbles into Monica's apartment with terrible news. Her father who lives in Long Island had a heart attack. So she did what any good, loving daughter would do, she went to go see him. However, she didn't go alone for she definitely needed somebody to comfort her during this difficult time. Can you guess who accompanied her? Good old Ross. The two went to Long Island and stayed at Rachel's childhood home. She did not feel like spending the night alone in her room so when she asked Ross to stay with her, he surprisingly refused. He didn't want to take advantage of Rachel because he knew she was feeling vulnerable at the time, and he wanted to respect her. As much as I wanted them to kiss or at least establish some kind of romantic status, I think it was a smart move of Ross to not give in to his temptations. At first Rachel got offended and embarrassed but she got over it and left Ross with a little tease towards the end of the episode.

As for Joey and his French, well... he should just stick to English. Pheobee tried to be a good teacher but got too frustrated, and impatient with Joey. He would pronounce every single word wrong, and he wasn't catching on very well. When it was time for his audition he sounded like a mad man speaking gibberish and didn't get the part. Surprise surprise! At least he tried right? We still love him anyways. Now as for Chandler and Monica, they did a little research and were relieved when they found out the father of their baby was the Harvard student. Too bad it wasn't an Arizona State student.

Finally, Rachel's father recovers from his heart attack and safely makes it out of the hospital, and Ross and Rachel return to the city. Ross drops Rachel off at her apartment and Rachel apologizes for trying to steam things up again back in Long Island, then there's an awkward silence and they almost have the audience thinking they are going to kiss, but unfortunately they do not. Rachel then says to Ross; " Ross, just so you know, the offer is always on the table" and then she says goodnight and goes to her room. They couldn't have tortured us more. Hopefully Ross will take her offer and realize that she is being serious. It's only obvious Rachel wants something more than just a friendship.
